Birmingham, England – Christian Benteke decided to withdraw his transfer request and sign a new contract with Aston Villa on Friday, which is a major victory for the club.
Benteke made a huge impact in his first season at Villa Park last term, leading the club with 19 goals in 34 Premiership appearances to help Villa avoid relegation.
The 22-year-old moved to England from Genk in Belgium, and he still had three years remaining on his current contract.
But after a breakthrough season last year, Benteke turned in a transfer request last month, seemingly to move to a bigger club.
However, he has reversed course after talks with manager Paul Lambert and signed a new contract that runs until 2017.
