Kings name Blake as assistant GM

The Los Angeles Kings appointed former team captain and defenseman Rob Blake as their assistant general manager on Thursday.

Blake, the Kings' all-time leader in games played, goals, assists and points by a defenseman, replaces Ron Hextall, who is now the assistant general manager and director of hockey operations for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Selected by the Kings in the fourth round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, Blake played 14 of his 20 NHL seasons with the Kings (1990-2001, 2006-08) and was team captain for six seasons (1996-2001, 2007-08).

A six-time All-Star, he helped lead the Kings to the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals and won the franchise's first Norris Trophy in 1998.

Blake also spent time as a member of the Avalanche (2001-06) and the Sharks (2008-10), winning a Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2001.
