London, England – West Ham striker Andy Carroll could miss the start of the new Premiership season because of a heel injury, Hammers manager Sam Allardyce said.
Carroll secured a permanent move to Upton Park from Liverpool after a successful loan spell with the club last season, and he played an important part in West Ham's 10th-place finish last season.
"Andy is still recovering. He has got four weeks or more to go before he starts full training," Allardyce said.
"I hope it will be before (September) for him, but being fit and being ready to play are two different things - he might be fit from the injury, but he is unlikely to be capable of playing straight away."
West Ham opens its season at home against Cardiff City on Aug. 17.
