Dallas Mavericks rookie guard Shane Larkin had surgery Tuesday to repair a fracture in his right ankle.

The team said Larkin's recovery is expected to take three months.

He suffered the injury while participating in a summer-league practice last Friday.

Dallas acquired the former Hurricane with the 18th overall pick in last month's NBA Draft after moving back two spots through trades with the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks.

The 20-year-old spent two seasons at Miami and averaged 14.5 points, 4.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds as a sophomore.

He was an integral part in helping the Hurricanes capture the ACC championship and led them on a run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament this past season.
