Billups returns to Motown

The Detroit Pistons have brought back guard Chauncey Billups.

Terms were not disclosed, but the Detroit Free Press had previously reported the contract to be worth $5 million over two years.

Billups played for Detroit from 2002-2008 and was the NBA Finals MVP when the Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the spring of 2004. He was dealt to Denver early in the 2008-09 season and has also played for the Knicks and Clippers since leaving the Pistons.

"I'm very happy to be back in Detroit," said Billups at a Tuesday news conference.

In 22 games last season for the Clippers, Billups averaged 8.4 points and 2.2 assists. He played just 20 games in 2011-12 for the Clippers before suffering a torn Achilles tendon in February 2012.

The Colorado product, who will turn 37 in September, began his NBA career with Boston in the 1997-98 season and also played for Toronto, Denver and Minnesota before first joining the Pistons for the 2002-03 campaign.

A five-time All-Star, Billups has averaged 15.4 points, 5.5 assists and 2.9 rebounds over 1,024 NBA regular-season games, including 930 starts.
