Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood has been rewarded with a new four-year contract after a strong debut season in the Premier League.

Westwood joined Villa last summer from Crewe, and he went on to make 30 appearances for the Villains in his first season in the top flight, earning him a new contract that runs until the summer of 2017.

"This time last year I was still on preseason with Crewe and now I'm signing another contract at Villa, it's a fantastic feeling for me," he told the club's official website.

"I love being here and I'm delighted to be part of a great football club. You look at the players the manager has brought to the club and they're all young and hungry. I just want to be part of that and hopefully we're building something special here."

Aston Villa finished in 15th place last season, five points above the relegation places.
