Chicago, IL – The Chicago Cubs signed 2013 No. 2 overall pick Kris Bryant Friday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday that the 21-year-old third baseman agreed to a $6.71 million signing bonus, the highest of this year's draft class and the largest in franchise history for an amateur player.
Bryant hit .329 with 80 runs, 13 doubles, 31 home runs and 62 RBI in 62 games at the University of San Diego. His 31 home runs led the nation and set a school record.
The Las Vegas native was this year's Louisville Slugger National Player of the Year, the Baseball America Player of the Year and a first-team All-American.
Bryant also is a finalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, which will be announced on July 19.
The Toronto Blue Jays selected Bryant in the 18th round of the 2010 draft, but he opted not to sign and attend San Diego.
The Cubs have now signed 24 draft picks, including their first 13 selections.
