In a rematch of last year's final, Italian Sara Errani once again beat Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova at the $235,000 Italiacom Open tennis event.

The top-seeded former French Open runner-up Errani leveled Zahlavova Strycova in 6-3, 6-2 fashion in Wednesday's second-round action on the red clay at Country Time Club.

The 2012 champion Errani was also a Palermo runner-up in 2009.

Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Spaniard Silvia Soler-Espinosa was pasting Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, 6-2, 1-0, when the Croat retired on Day 3. Soler-Espinosa will battle Errani in Friday's quarterfinals.

Additional second-round action saw German Dinah Pfizenmaier dismiss five-time Palermo champion Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-1, 6-1 and Czech Renata Voracova erase Italian wild card Corinna Dentoni 7-5, 6-1. The Spanish Medina Garrigues titled here in 2001, from 2004-06, and again in 2011.

The first round concluded Wednesday when third-seeded Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic topped Portuguese qualifier Maria Joao Koehler 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).

The 2013 Palermo titlist will pocket $41,000.
