The San Diego Padres have announced the resignation of Tom Garfinkel as president and CEO of the team.
Ron Fowler, executive chairman, will assume Garfinkel's responsibilities on an interim basis until a new president and CEO is hired.
Garfinkel had served as president of the Padres since April 2009 and added the CEO title three years later. He remained with the club after Fowler and Peter Seidler purchased the franchise from John Moores last August.
Seidler and Fowler, in a brief press release Tuesday, both expressed their appreciation for Garfinkel's contributions to the organization over the last four years.
Garfinkel oversaw all non-baseball operations with San Diego, a role similar to the one he held with the Arizona Diamondbacks before joining the Padres. He also spent five years in auto racing as executive vice president at Chip Ganassi Racing.
