The Winnipeg Jets on Monday announced center Alexander Burmistrov has decided to sign with Ak Bars Kazan of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.

Burmistrov was selected with the eighth overall pick of the 2010 draft when the organization was based in Atlanta. He played three seasons for the Thrashers/Jets franchise on an entry-level contract and notched 23 goals with 35 assists in 194 games.

"Through our conversations and correspondence with Alex and his agent, it became apparent Alex had a desire to continue his development as a young player in the KHL," said Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff in a statement Monday. "He remains a very talented player within the Jets organization and we will continue to monitor his progress and development going forward."

The 21-year-old native of Kazan, Russia managed just four goals and six assists for 10 points in 44 games during the lockout-shortened 2013 season.
