Isner resumes Newport domination

Two-time defending champion John Isner posted an opening-round victory Monday at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.

The 6-foot-10 second seed swatted 11 aces in getting past fellow American Ryan Harrison 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 in 80 minutes on the grass courts at the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum.

Isner defeated former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt in last year's Newport finale and doused diminutive Belgian Olivier Rochus in the 2011 championship match.

Frenchman Adrian Mannarino ousted American James Blake 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. The 33- year-old Blake was a Newport finalist in 2002.

Meanwhile, Poland's Michal Przysiezny outlasted American wild card Stefan Kozlov, 6-3, 6-7 (9-11), 6-4, while Japan's Yuichi Sugita defeated Jesse Levine in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

This week's top seed is American Sam Querrey, and the former world No. 1 Hewitt is in the field, seeded fourth. Querrey was a 2009 Newport runner-up.

The winner of this $520,000 event will claim $78,000.
