Everton have signed forward Arouna Kone from Wigan, the club confirmed on Monday.

Kone, 29, makes the move to Goodison Park after the Toffees triggered a six million pound release clause in his contract.

Kone will again join up with manager Roberto Martinez, who left Wigan following the conclusion of the campaign.

The Ivory Coast international scored 11 Premier League goals last season for the Latics, who won the FA Cup but were ultimately relegated to the Championship.

"Every player dreams of playing for a bigger club and coming here is a big step up for me," Kone said. "I hope to be able to fulfil all my dreams and get as far as I can through hard work. I hope to score as many goals as I can next season."

Newcastle United had also met the release clause in Kone's contract, but he opted to move to Merseyside.
