The 2012 French Open runner-up raced past American Julia Cohen 6-0, 6-1 in 65 minutes on the red clay at Country Time Club.
The Bologna, Italy, native Errani beat Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in last year's Palermo finale to capture her second title here in five years. She was also a Palermo runner-up in 2009.
Also on Day 1, seventh-seeded Spaniard Silvia Soler-Espinosa snuck past France's Mathilde Johansson 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 and Italian wild card Corinna Dentoni overcame promising French teenager Caroline Garcia 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
The 2013 Palermo titlist will pocket $41,000.
