John Daly has withdrawn from the British Open due to an elbow injury.
Daly, who won the Open at St. Andrews in 1995, was forced to withdraw from the Greenbrier Classic on Friday with the injury and posted on his Twitter account later that day that he tore a tendon in his elbow.
He also posted he will have surgery on the elbow next week, which will sideline him for three to four months.
It will be the first British Open Daly will miss since 1999.
The five-time PGA Tour winner has missed eight cuts and withdrawn three times in 16 events this season between the PGA and Web.com Tours.
In the five events he had advanced to the weekend, Daly's best finish was a tie for 50th at the Puerto Rico Open.
He will be replaced in the field by Stephan Gallacher.
