Caps bring in D Strachan

The Washington Capitals signed free agent defenseman Tyson Strachan to a one-year, two-way contract on Monday.

Strachan owns 120 games of NHL experience and played in a career-high 38 contests for the Florida Panthers last season, registering four assists and 40 penalty minutes. The 28-year-old has one goal, 12 assists and 127 penalty minutes over parts of five seasons with the Panthers and St. Louis Blues.

The Capitals also reached agreements with forward Matt Watkins and goaltender David Leggio on one-year, two-way deals. Watkins spent all of last season with the New York Islanders' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport, with Leggio a member of the Buffalo Sabres' organization in 2012-13.
