The New York Yankees activated infielder Eduardo Nunez from the 60-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Nunez has been recovering from an oblique strain that has sidelined him since early May.

Nunez began the season as the Yankees' primary shortstop with Derek Jeter on the mend from a broken ankle, but was hitting just .200 prior to the injury.

In order to make room for Nunez, the Yankees placed pitcher David Phelps on the 15-day DL with a forearm strain. The right-hander is 6-5 with a 5.01 ERA in 18 games (12 starts) this season.
