Rangers sign D Johnson

The New York Rangers added defensive depth Friday, signing journeyman blueliner Aaron Johnson to a one-year deal.

Johnson joins his seventh NHL team, having played in 291 career contests with Boston, Calgary, Chicago, Columbus, Edmonton and the New York Islanders.

A third-round pick by the Blue Jackets in 2001, Johnson split time between Boston and the club's AHL affiliate in Providence during the 2012-13 campaign. He had no points and 10 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Bruins last season and did not see action for Boston in the playoffs.

The 30-year-old has 17 goals, 45 assists and 227 PIM over his NHL career.
