The New York Yankees signed infielder Luis Cruz and placed infielder Jayson Nix on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.

Cruz, 29, batted .127 with one home run and six RBI in 45 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers before being designated for assignment on June 28.

Cruz is slated to start at shortstop and bat eighth on Wednesday when the Yankees continue a four-game series against the Twins in Minnesota.

Nix, 30, was hitting .236 with two home runs, 20 RBI and a career-high 11 stolen bases in 73 games before suffering a right hamstring strain on Monday. The injury occurred after Nix ran out a ninth-inning double in the Yankees' 10-4 win over the Twins.
