Boston Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias has been named the American League's Rookie of the Month for June.

Iglesias batted .395 with four doubles, two triples, one home run, six RBI and 17 runs scored over 25 games over the season's third month, becoming the first Red Sox rookie to claim the award since Jacoby Ellsbury in September 2007.

Iglesias put together a career-high 18-game hitting streak from May 27-June 18 and finished the month first in batting average, on-base percentage (.453), slugging percentage (.523), base hits and runs scored among qualifying AL rookies with at least 81 plate appearances.

Other players considered included David Lough of the Kansas City Royals, Seattle's Nick Franklin, teammates Wil Myers and Alex Torres of the Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota's Oswaldo Arcia and Jose Cisnero of the Houston Astros.
