Dodgers' Beckett to undergo surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Josh Beckett will undergo surgery on his neck in July, the team said on its website.

Beckett, who has not pitched since May 13, is suffering from thoracic outlet syndrome, and the surgery is meant to relieve pressure on the nerve in his neck.

In eight starts this season, the 33-year-old right-hander has posted an 0-5 record with a 5.19 ERA, which would be the third-worst ERA of his 13-year career if, as expected, he does not return this season.
