The Detroit Tigers recalled pitcher Bruce Rondon form Triple-A Toledo Friday and optioned pitcher Evan Reed to Toledo.

Rondon was expected to compete for Detroit's starting closer role, but after making his major league debut on April 25, the 22-year-old right-hander yielded three runs in 2 1/3 innings over three games.

Rondon was promptly optioned to Toledo, where he went 1-1 with a 1.52 earned run average and 14 saves over 30 games with the Mud Hens.

Reed, 27, made his first big league appearance on May 16. Over six games, the right-handed Reed allowed eight runs -- three earned -- in 10 1/3 innings of relief work.
