Several picks exchanged on draft night

Brooklyn, NY – Trey Burke, the consensus national player of the year at Michigan as a sophomore, had a rocky first night as a professional.

Burke was picked in the No. 9 position by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but was then shipped to the Jazz in exchange for the draft rights to Shabazz Muhammad (14th overall pick) and Gorgui Dieng (21st overall pick).

It was one of several deals Thursday involving many NBA teams and draft selections.

Burke swept the major National Player of the Year awards as a sophomore after leading the Wolverines to the NCAA championship game against Louisville. He averaged 18.6 points, 6.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from 3-point range.

"Ever since we've lost the national championship these last two months or so, it's just been a whirlwind," Burke said. "I got drafted by the Timberwolves and then I found out I was getting traded to the Utah Jazz. My mind was pretty much everywhere. I was just ready to figure out where I was going to finally end up. Now that I'm at Utah, I'm definitely thrilled for the opportunity."

The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly agreed to trade All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to New Orleans for Kentucky center Nerlens Noel. The Sixers will reportedly get a 2014 first-round pick while giving the No. 42 overall choice in this draft to New Orleans. The 42nd pick was Baylor guard Pierre Jackson.

Dallas got Gonzaga center Kelly Olynyk at 13th, but he was traded to Boston for three draft picks. That included the 16th overall selection on Thursday night, which was 7-foot Brazilian center Lucas Nogueira. The Mavs also got a pair of future second-round selections.

Olynyk, finished the 2012-13 season with averages of 17.8 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The Celtics also reportedly agreed in principle to deal Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to Brooklyn, but that can't become official until July 10.

The Denver Nuggets traded center Kosta Koufos to the Memphis Grizzlies for forward Darrell Arthur and the 55th overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, according to the Denver Post. Joffrey Lauvergne, from France, was the 55th overall pick in Thursday's draft.

Andre Roberson, the 26th overall pick, landed with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but only after a couple of trades. The Colorado forward was drafted by the Timberwolves and then dealt to Golden State along with guard Malcolm Lee. Minnesota got a 2014 second-round pick and cash.

Roberson was then dealt to the Thunder with the Warriors obtaining the 29th overall pick and cash. The No. 29 pick was Kentucky guard Archie Goodwin.

Cleveland sent the first pick of the second round (31st overall) to Portland in exchange for a pair of future second-round picks.

The Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks pulled off a four-player deal. The Mavs obtained the No. 18 overall pick, Miami-Florida guard Shane Larkin and cash. The Hawks get guard Jared Cunningham, the No. 16 pick (Brazil center Lucas Nogueira), and the No. 44 pick (Bucknell center Mike Muscala).

Denver sent the 27th overall selection, French center Rudy Gobert, to Utah. The Nuggets got the No. 46 pick, which was Virginia Tech center Erick Green, and cash.

The Washington Wizards acquired Glen Rice, Jr. (35th overall by Philadelphia) in exchange for the 38th (South Dakota State guard Nate Wolters) and 54th overall (Oregon forward Arsalan Kazemi) picks in the draft.

Miami acquired the draft rights to James Ennis (Long Beach State forward) from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for a future second round pick. Ennis was the 50th overall pick.
