Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Corey Hart will miss the remainder of the season after he undergoes surgery on his left knee, manager Ron Roenicke revealed Friday.

Hart had been on the DL all season while rehabbing his right knee, which required extensive surgery in January.

Specialist Neal Elattrache of the Los Angeles Dodgers examined Hart's left knee Friday after he recently began feeling discomfort. No date has been set for surgery, but it will be performed in Los Angeles.

Hart hit 30 home runs with 83 RBI and a .270 batting average in 149 games with the Brewers last season.

Hart, 31, is in the final year of a three-year, $36 million contract and is scheduled to become a free agent this winter.
