Baltimore Orioles minor league pitcher Dylan Bundy will undergo ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow Thursday, a procedure that is expected to sideline the top prospect for around 12 months.

Bundy, rated the best pitching prospect and No. 2 overall by MLB.com heading into this season, was shut down during spring training with elbow soreness and was forced to halt a throwing session on flat ground on Monday due to pain in his elbow.

An exam with Dr. James Andrews in Florida on Wednesday revealed the 20-year- old had a partial tear of his elbow ligament.

Bundy, the No. 4 overall pick of the 2011 MLB Draft, went 9-3 with a 2.08 earned run average between Class A and AA during his first full pro season last year, then made a pair of relief appearances with the Orioles as a September callup.
