Real Madrid have appointed former Paris-Saint Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti to the same position, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Ancelotti joins Real Madrid on a three-year contract after leaving PSG, where he helped the club from the French capital claim its first Ligue 1 title since 1993-94.

Ancelotti takes over at the Bernabeu for Jose Mourinho, who departed after the season to return to Chelsea.

Ancelotti, 54, has won league titles in England, France and Italy and Real Madrid will be hoping he can elevate the club above current Spanish champions Barcelona as well as deliver their first Champions League crown since 2002.
