The Memphis Grizzlies made the Western Conference Finals for the first time this season.
Then, they got swept in four games by the San Antonio Spurs.
Then, head coach Lionel Hollins and the organization got into a rift and Hollins was informed he wouldn't be offered a contract.
So the Grizzlies won't have a head coach, or, for that matter, a philosophy when they use their two second-round picks. They don't have a first-rounder.
Starting guard Tony Allen is a free agent, although Memphis would love to have him back. He is probably the best defensive guard in the league and fits that system like a glove.
Problem is, does he fit the system of maybe George Karl? Or Brian Shaw? It's very difficult to make changes and important decisions without a head coach.
If someone like Dave Joerger, an assistant under Hollins, took over, the transition would be smoother.
Depth was an issue for the Grizz during the season. Some of their bench backcourt guys like Jerryd Bayless and Keyon Dooling could both bolt, so that could be an issue with those second-round picks.
