The New York Mets placed reliever Scott Atchison on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, just 24 hours after the veteran right-hander made his return from an elbow injury.

Atchison missed more than a month with inflammation in his throwing elbow before being activated prior to Tuesday's doubleheader against the Braves. He came on to begin the bottom of the seventh inning, but threw just three warmup pitches before leaving the mound with what was diagnosed as a strained right groin.

The 37-year-old has made 19 appearances this season, allowing nine earned runs over 18 innings of work.

New York recalled outfielder Andrew Brown from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the available roster spot.

Brown, who hit .232 with five home runs in 46 games with Colorado last season, was batting .346 with seven homers, 15 doubles and 41 RBI in 41 Pacific Coast League contests.
