Oduamadi's hat trick helps Nigeria ease past Tahiti

Nnamdi Oduamadi scored a hat trick as Nigeria easily coasted past Group B minnows Tahiti on Monday by a 6-1 score in Confederations Cup play.

As expected, Nigeria had its way for the most part against the Oceania representative, which has just one professional player on its roster.

Goals from Elderson and Oduamadi in the opening 10 minutes got Nigeria off the mark, while Oduamadi added his second goal of the contest in the 26th minute after a terrible error from Tahiti goalkeeper Xavier Samin.

Tahiti did have one bright spot in the match as Marama Vahirua's corner kick was headed home at the back post by Jonathan Tehau, making it 3-1 and giving Tahiti something to take away from the game.

But Nigeria added three more goals over the final 20 minutes as Tehau scored an own goal, Oduamadi completed his hat trick and Elderson netted his second goal with 10 minutes to play.

Nigeria goes to the top of Group B with the result, but the African side will get a much tougher test in its next match against Uruguay on Thursday.

Tahiti has the unenviable task of trying to slow down Spain in its next match, which will be a monumental test.
