After taking unusual path to NBA draft through D-League, Rice hoping it helps his stock soar

INDIANAPOLIS – Glen Rice Jr. is back.

After taking an unexpected detour through the NBA's D-League, he won a title, rebuilt his image and is now trying to make history in a way very different from his famous father.

Rice is no traditional draft prospect.

After three mostly mediocre seasons at Georgia Tech, he was kicked off the team for trouble off the court and opted to pursue his future in the D-League. At first, playing time was sparse. But after several call-ups and injuries gave Rice more playing time, he emerged as a star, averaging 25.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in Rio Grande Valley's playoff run.

If all goes well in team workouts, Rice could become the first player taken in the first round after playing a season in the D-League.
