Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will return to New York for further evaluation on his troublesome right wrist after being forced out of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Teixeira was removed prior to the start of the bottom of the fourth inning of the Yankees' 6-2 loss. The two-time All-Star missed the first two months of the season after injuring the tendon sheath in his wrist while training for the World Baseball Classic in March.

"This is the first time he came to us," Yankees manager Joe Giradi said afterward. "He feels there's not enough strength there. He'll have it checked out, and yes, I'm concerned."

The 33-year-old has struggled mightily since returning from the disabled list on May 31, batting just .151 with three home runs and 19 strikeouts in 53 at- bats. Teixeira is currently mired in a 3-for-31 slump after going 0-for-2 in Saturday's game.
