Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb left Saturday's game with the Kansas City Royals in the fifth inning after he was struck in the head with a line drive.

With no outs in the top of the fifth, Cobb delivered a 2-1 fastball to Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer. Hosmer ripped the pitch back up the middle, catching Cobb squarely on the right side of his head.

Cobb immediately grabbed his head and fell to the ground, where he remained for several minutes as he was tended to by the Tampa Bay training staff before being eventually removed from the field on a stretcher.

Cobb, who remained conscious the entire time, was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he was diagnosed with a mild concussion. All other medical tests came back normal.

The right-hander allowed two runs on four hits and walked three over 4 1/3 innings prior to exiting.
