Walter Samuel signed a one-year contract extension with Inter Milan on Friday, ensuring his stay at the San Siro until June 2014.

The 35-year-old's previous deal was set to expire this summer, and after appearing in only 16 games during an injury-plagued season last year, it was thought that Samuel could be released.

"I'm very happy to have renewed my contract for another year," Samuel told the club's official website.

"Along with my teammates, I hope I can give Inter a positive year and repay the club for the faith they've shown, since they still believe in me."

Samuel joined Inter from Real Madrid in 2005 and he has won 56 caps for Argentina during his international career.

His extension also comes just a few days after another veteran, Javier Zanetti, signed on for another season with the Nerazzurri.
