Former Spanish national team midfielder Marcos Senna signs with New York Cosmos

Former Spanish national team midfielder Marcos Senna has signed with the New York Cosmos, who start play in August in the second-tier North American Soccer League.

Senna turns 37 next month and was born in Brazil. He made 28 appearances from Spain from 2006-10 and was a member of the all-tournament team when his country won the 2008 European Championship.

Senna spent the last 11 seasons with Villarreal. The Spanish club was relegated to the second division after the 2011-12 season and gained promotion back to La Liga for 2013-14.

The Cosmos said Thursday he must pass a physical for the deal to be completed.
