Toronto, ON – The Edmonton Oilers will reportedly introduce Dallas Eakins as the team's new head coach at a press conference on Monday.
TSN of Canada reported the news on Sunday, just one day after the Oilers fired Ralph Krueger.
Edmonton went 19-22-7 this past season, good enough for third place in the Northwest Division but still unable to snag a playoff berth. The Oilers have missed the playoffs seven straight years.
Eakins spent the past six seasons in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization in various roles. He was named the third head coach in Marlies (AHL) history on August 4, 2009.
Originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 10th round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, Eakins played in 120 career games with Winnipeg, Florida, St. Louis, Phoenix, the New York Rangers, Toronto, the New York Islanders and Calgary, collecting nine assists and 208 penalty minutes.
