Fourth-seeded Russians Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina captured the women's doubles title at the French Open on Sunday with a 7-5, 6-2 win over the defending champions and top-seeded duo of Italians Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.

It was the first major title for Vesnina, a French Open doubles runner-up in 2009 and 2011. Makarova claimed her second title at a Grand Slam event, adding to the mixed doubles crown she won with Bruno Soares at the U.S. Open last year.

Errani and Vinci were bidding for a third straight Grand Slam title.
