Red Sox activate Victorino from DL

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox activated outfielder Shane Victorino from the 15-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Royals.

Victorino has been sidelined with a right hamstring strain suffered during a May 23 game against the Rays -- the same injury that caused him to miss the season's first 22 games. He was placed on the DL one day later, then suffered a back injury during a rehab assignment in Triple-A Pawtucket last month.

The two-time World Series champion will bat sixth and play in right field. In only 21 games this year, Victorino has hit .242 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 10 RBI.

To make room on the roster, the club optioned outfielder Mookie Betts to Pawtucket.

Betts, who was recalled from the PawSox on June 28, collected eight hits in 34 at-bats during his initial 10-game stint in the majors.
