Swansea City announced on Friday that the club has agreed to a deal with Real Betis midfielder Jose Canas that will make him the first signing of the summer for the Swans.

Canas came up through the youth system at Betis, and he made an important contribution to the club last term, appearing in 27 games in La Liga to help Betis finish in seventh place.

But with his contract set to expire, Canas is poised to make a switch to the Premier League to continue his career.

A statement on Swansea's official website confirmed: "Swansea City have today finalized personal terms with Real Betis midfielder Jose Canas. The Spaniard has signed a pre-contract with the club which will be ratified once the transfer window opens on July."

The 26-year-old broke into the first team at Betis in 2009 and went on to make 66 appearances for the club in his time in Seville.
