Jared Allen has entered the final season of his mega contract without any promise from the Minnesota Vikings of an extension.

He says he's excited about that.

Allen doesn't want to leave Minnesota, and he would rather have already signed a new deal with the team that traded a first-round draft pick and a pair of third-round selections to Kansas City to get him in 2008.

But even a guy with 117 career sacks can get cut. So the 31-year-old is pleased the Vikings have kept him around for what could be his final season in purple.

Allen has been recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He is expected to be healed in time for training camp.
