The Cleveland Indians placed shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained right quadriceps.

Cabrera suffered the injury running out a ground ball in the fifth inning of Monday's 7-4 loss at Yankee Stadium. He was unable to put any weight on his right leg while walking slowly to the dugout with the aid of both Indians manager Terry Francona and team trainer Lonnie Soloff.

In 53 games this season, Cabrera is hitting .254 with five homers, 18 doubles and 25 RBI.

The Indians filled the roster spot by recalling infielder Juan Diaz from Triple-A Columbus. Diaz, who was batting .211 in the minors, made his major league debut last year, appearing in five games for Cleveland.
