The Washington Nationals made a slew of roster moves on Tuesday, including the activation of outfielder Jayson Werth from the 15-day disabled list.

The club also placed second baseman Danny Espinosa on the 15-day DL with a right wrist fracture, recalled infielder Anthony Rendon from Triple-A Syracuse, selected the contract of pitcher Ian Krol from Double-A Harrisburg and designated pitchers Henry Rodriguez and Zach Duke for assignment.

Werth missed a month of action with a strained right hamstring, last playing on May 2. Prior to landing on the DL, he was batting .260 with four homers and 10 RBI over 27 games.

Espinosa has struggled this season, hitting just .158 through 44 games.

Rendon, the sixth overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, returns for his second career stint in the majors after playing eight games from April 21-May 2. Recently promoted to Triple-A, Rendon, who turns 23 on Thursday, posted a .319 batting average with six homers and 24 RBI while in Double-A.

Krol, 22, has been pitching lights out for Harrisburg, compiling a sterling 0.69 ERA in 21 relief appearances. Acquired from the Oakland Athletics in March, the left-hander has given up just two earned runs over 26 innings this year.

Rodriguez, once viewed as a potential closer, was 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA in 17 games, while Duke compiled a 1-1 record with an unsightly 8.71 ERA in 12 games (one start).
