Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura told reporters Wednesday that second baseman Gordon Beckham will probably begin the season on the disabled list as he recovers from a strained oblique.

Beckham has not played in a spring game since Mar. 14 due to the injury. The White Sox can backdate the DL stint to Mar. 21 and are hopeful he'll be ready to return for the team's fifth game of the season on Apr. 5.

Rookie Marcus Semien, who's batting .348 this spring, and Leury Garcia are expected to handle second-base duties for Chicago's opening series against Minnesota.

Beckham started 100 games at second base for the White Sox last season and hit .267 with five home runs and 24 RBI.

Infielder Jeff Keppinger, sidelined for much of the spring due to shoulder soreness related to offseason surgery, is also likely to start the season on the DL.
