The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed pitcher Jeanmar Gomez on the 15-day disabled list because of strained right forearm.

Gomez left Sunday's game against Cincinnati after just one inning. He is 2-0 with a 3.07 ERA in 12 games, including seven starts, this season.

The Pirates added right-handers Jared Hughes and Ryan Reid to the major league roster. Pittsburgh's bullpen was depleted Sunday when Gomez left and five relievers combined for 10 shutout innings in a 5-4 victory over the Reds.

Hughes appeared in 13 games out of the bullpen for the Pirates earlier this season and was 1-2 with a 4.61 ERA before being sent to the minors in May. He allowed one run in 13 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Reid had an ERA of 0.52 in 20 games for Indianapolis. The 28-year-old has never appeared in the majors.

The Pirates made room for Reid on the 40-man roster by recalling pitcher Phil Irwin from Indianapolis and placing him on the 60-day disabled list.

In addition, Pittsburgh also optioned outfielder Alex Presley to Indianapolis. Presley was just recalled on May 31 and was 4-for-11 in three games.
