St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for a recent on-field tirade, Major League Baseball announced on Monday.

The veteran catcher made contact with umpire Mike Everitt in the third inning of Sunday's 4-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants after arguing a close play at first base, in which Molina looked to just miss beating out a throw on a groundout. He was ejected from the game moments later along with Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, who came onto the field to support his player.

Although the suspension had been scheduled for Monday's opener of a three-game set versus Arizona, Molina has elected to file an appeal and is available to play until his case is heard.
