Webb captures ShopRite Classic title

Karrie Webb matched the low round of the day with a 3-under 68 in gusty conditions on Sunday to grab a 2-stroke victory at the ShopRite Classic.

Webb finished 54 holes at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club at 4-under-par 209 to capture the 39th LPGA title of her Hall of Fame career, but her first since the 2011 RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup.

"It never gets any easier either," Webb said about the win. "Today was extremely tough, and I'm just glad that I pulled it out."

Second-round leader Shanshan Feng struggled to a 4-over 75 during her final round to fall into second place at 2-under, while Hee Young Park shot 71 to grab third at minus-1.

Jenny Shin (70) finished fourth at even-par 213.

Feng entered the day holding a 3-stroke lead over the field, but tripped to a double bogey at the par-4 second to fall into a tie for first with Webb, who opened with a birdie at the second and an eagle at the third to meet Feng at 4-under.

Feng quickly bounced back with a birdie at the third to retake the outright lead.

That advantage jumped to two stroke when Webb bogeyed the sixth, but the wind victimized Feng again at the fifth as she recorded her second double bogey of the round.

Chie Arimura, meanwhile, birdied the third to make it a three-way tie for first at minus-3.

Feng then pulled ahead of the pack with a birdie at the eighth, and Webb was given sole possession of second after Arimura double bogeyed the ninth.

Feng tripped to a bogey at the 11th to again fall into a tie with Webb, and after parring the 12th, dropped another shot at the 13th to hand Webb the lead for good.

The Australian then added some cushion at the par-5 18th when she hit her third shot to within five feet and converted her short birdie effort to hit the clubhouse at 4-under.

"I knew I needed to make one birdie, I thought because I didn't think I could just par in and feel comfortable, so great birdie on the last," Webb said.

Feng closed the gap to a stroke with a birdie at the 16th, but she then hit her tee shot into a greenside bunker at the par-3 17th and failed to get up and down for par to again fall two strokes off the pace.

Needing an eagle at the last to force a playoff, Feng failed to reach the green with her third shot, sealing the win for Webb.

"My first time to look at a (score)board was actually after I hit my third shot on 18," said Feng. "My ball was already by the green, and that was first time I looked at the board and I was like, geez, there were only three people under par. Couldn't believe it."

NOTES: Webb received $225,000 with the win ... The victory will move Webb up three spots to ninth in the world rankings ... Webb is the sixth LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member to win this event, joining Juli Inkster, Betsy King, Nancy Lopez, Annika Sorenstam and Se Ri Pak ... Webb has made 54 straight cuts, which leads the LPGA Tour.
