The New England Revolution extended their winning streak in league play to three consecutive matches after a convincing 5-0 thrashing of the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
After a slow start to the season, Jay Heaps' club has been firing on all cylinders recently, posting clean sheets in each of their past three victories.
Young guns Diego Fagundez and Kelyn Rowe powered the rout for the Revs as Fagundez scored and added an assist, while Rowe also scored and contributed two assists. New England also received goals from Saer Sene, Lee Nguyen and Chad Barrett on the afternoon.
The Revs opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Sene was played into the penalty area via a nice through ball from Fagundez and he buried it far post past Los Angeles goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini for the first of many on the day.
It was 2-0 for the Revs in the 71st minute as Nguyen took the ball into the penalty area completely untouched and slid it into the bottom right corner, and Fagundez made it 3-0 with three minutes to play when he collected a low cross from Rowe and fired it home.
But the rout wasn't quite over yet as former Galaxy man Barrett got into the scoring mood in the 90th minute and Rowe put an exclamation point on a statement win for New England just moments later when he curled a beautiful strike just inside the right post to finish the result.
The win moves New England level on points with Philadelphia Union in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, while Los Angeles remains in fourth place in the West on 20 points.
