Tallahassee Regional: Day Two

A day after being upset by the third- seed of the Tallahassee Regional, the second-seed Alabama Crimson Tide held off elimination with a 3-2 win over the Savannah State Tigers.

The Tigers (33-23) rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and nearly tied the game up but Jason Wynn was tagged out at home trying to score from third on a bunt attempt and the rally stalled. Ryan Castillo then pitched a scoreless ninth inning to collect the save for Alabama (35-27).

Kenny Roberts went 3-for-4 with a double and Brett Booth went 2-for-2 with a RBI for Alabama while Mike Oczypok picked up the win by throwing seven scoreless innings.

Jack May took the loss for Savannah State by allowing three runs in his six innings of work. With the loss the Tigers were eliminated from the tournament.

In the winner's bracket of the regional the top-seed Florida State Seminoles made easy work of the Troy Trojans with an 11-0 victory.

Luke Weaver pitched eight shutout innings and struck out 14 batters to lead the Seminoles (46-15) who advance to Sunday's regional finals where with just one more win they would advance to Super Regionals. D.J. Stewart went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a home run and John Nogowski went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs driven in to carry Florida State offensively.

Troy (41-19) managed just four hits as a team and Tanner Hicks allowed the first four runs of the game while walking six batters to take the loss. The Trojans will get a chance to earn the other spot in the regional final when they play Alabama, a team they beat 5-2 on Friday, at noon on Sunday with the loser of that contest being eliminated.
