Yankees activate Teixeira, Youkilis

The New York Yankees activated infielder Kevin Youkilis from the 15-day disabled list and infielder Mark Teixeira from the 60-day DL prior to their 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox Friday.

Teixeira began the season on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a strained wrist tendon during the World Baseball Classic on March 6. He was transferred to the 60-day disabled list earlier this month.

The 33-year-old Teixeira hit .251 with 24 homers and 84 RBI in 123 games last season.

Youkilis, who signed a one-year contract worth $12 million in the offseason, was placed on the disabled list on April 30 with a lower back strain.

The 34-year-old Youkilis was hitting .266 with two home runs and seven RBI in 17 games prior to the injury.

Teixeira drew a walk in the second inning and scored the team's first run Friday on a Jayson Nix single. Youkilis had an RBI base hit in the fifth inning.

Pitchers Ivan Nova and Vidal Nuno were optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes- Barre to make room on the 25-man roster.
