Agnieszka Radwanska reaches third round at French Open

Paris, France – Fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska was a second- round winner Wednesday at the French Open.

The 2012 Wimbledon runner-up Radwanska cruised past American Mallory Burdette 6-3, 6-2 on the famed red clay at Roland Garros.

Radwanska has never advanced beyond the fourth round in Paris. She was a third-round upset victim here last year.

She could've faced her sister, Urszula, in the next round if the younger sibling, who knocked out Venus Williams in the first round, beat German Dinah Pfizenmaier. The German, however, prevailed in 6-3, 6-3 fashion and will next face the older Radwanska.

The first round was completed Wednesday after rain postponed multiple matches on Tuesday.

Former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Elena Vesnina -- her fifth win in five matches against the experienced Russian.

The third-seeded Azarenka reached the quarterfinals here in 2009 and 2011. The two-time Australian Open champion and U.S. Open runner-up will face Germany's Annika Beck in the second round.

Seventh-seeded former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova outlasted Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai by a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 margin. Kvitova reached the semifinals here last year.

Russian Maria Kirilenko, the No. 12 seed, moved into the second round with a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Nina Bratchikova.

A pair of upsets took place when Kaia Kanepi of Estonia took down 23rd-seeded Czech Klara Zakopalova 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 and American Jamie Hampton outlasted 25th-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova with a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 9-7 triumph.

Other first-round wins on Day 4 came from Beck, Stefanie Voegele, Ashleigh Barty, Peng Shuai and Anna Schmiedlova.
