The Pittsburgh Pirates placed veteran pitcher Jose Contreras on the 15-day disabled list because of lower back inflammation, the team announced on Tuesday.

Contreras, 41, has appeared in seven games with the Pirates this season, compiling a 9.00 earned run average over five innings pitched. He began the year on the DL while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

A native of Cuba, Contreras owns a 78-67 record with a 4.57 ERA in 299 career games (175 starts) with the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Philadelphia Phillies as well as the Pirates.

To fill out the roster, the Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris from Triple-A Indianapolis.
