The San Diego Padres reinstated pitcher Clayton Richard from the 15-day disabled list Monday.

Richard, 29, was placed on the disabled list on May 5 due to an intestinal virus. He is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

In six starts this season, Richard is 0-4 with an 8.54 ERA. He has walked 17 batters and allowed 25 earned runs in just 26 1/3 innings.

In addition, the Padres optioned pitcher Tommy Layne to Triple-A Tucson. He gave up one run on three hits over 2 1/3 innings during Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.
